Currents, Visibility and Seasons in Komodo
Komodo National Park sits in the Coral Triangle and between the Indian and Pacific Oceans. That mix is why diving is so rich—but it also means dynamic conditions.
Seasonality: April–November and Beyond
The main cruise and diving season for most Komodo package dive sites is roughly April–November:
- Typically drier weather
- Often better overall visibility in the North and Central areas
- More stable sea conditions for liveaboards
December–March can still offer excellent diving on some days, but it is more affected by rain and wind patterns. We operate based on current weather forecasts and park advisories.
Manta rays and other megafauna are seasonal and wild. There are periods when sightings are more frequent at Manta Point, Mawan or Manta Alley, but no responsible operator can guarantee encounters. Even on “best” weeks, nature may do its own thing.
Hammerhead sharks have been seen in deeper or more remote parts of the wider region, but these sightings are occasional and not a primary selling point of our regular all-inclusive itineraries. Treat any such encounter as a bonus, not an expectation.
Currents: Why Some Sites Are Advanced

Komodo is one of my favourite places to guide in the world—but it is also one of the most demanding. Our safety approach is conservative and experience-based.
Minimum Certification and Experience
